Pitts & Spitts Cold Weather Tech Tip...

This tech tip came to us directly from Coy at P&S, so we wanted to make sure as a user that you got the information yourself!

As it gets cooler here are the cold weather mods.

How to avoid ER-2 in Colder Climates
An ER-2 is caused when the grill does not reach 160 degrees F within a given amount of time. The factory is setting is 30 minutes. Two parameters can be edited in order to 1) increase the rate at which the grill’s temperature increases during lighting and 2) increasing the amount of time allowed for the grill to reach 160 degrees F.
To edit these parameters, press and hold the Pellet Prime and Probe Display keys for 3 seconds. When the display shows C- and then a number, (the number is the parameter number [for example C-1]), you are in Editing Mode. To change the parameter number, use the Temp Up / Down keys. To edit the parameter value for the parameter number shown, press the On / Off key. To exit the parameter edit mode, press the Pellet Prime key.
When editing a parameter, only a number (the parameter value) will be displayed. To change the parameter value, use the Probe Display (increase) and Temp Display (decrease) keys. You can either use the Temp Up / Down keys to save the parameter and move to the next one, or use the ON key to save the parameter and go back to the parameter number selection mode.
Once you have entered Editing Mode, toggle until you have reached C-10. This parameter defines the rate at which the auger feeds during the Lighting Cycle. Our default rate is 30%. In colder weather, bump this up to 40%-50% to increase the rate at which the grill heats up.
Next, toggle to C-11 which is the amount of time allowed for the grill to reach 160 degrees F. Increase this to 60 minutes to give yourself as much time as possible.
Now exit the Editing Mode and allow your grill to run normally. Parameter definitions below.
C-10 Lighting Duty Cycle
Sets the duty cycle to be used on the auger after the lighting prime and lighting pause phases are
complete in percent tenths (e.g. 100 = 10.0%)
Min = 1 (0.1%), Max = 800 (80.0%)
C-11 Startup Time in Minutes
Sets the time allowed for all phases of the lighting cycle in minutes. If the control does not sense the warm condition within this time, a fail to start error code (ER-2) will be displayed.
Min = 5, Max = 60
RESET CONTROLLER TO DEFAULT SETTINGS:
To quickly default all parameters to the factory settings, press and hold the Pellet Prime and Temp Display keys for 3 seconds until the display shows "BYE". This action resets to the current model defaults but does not change the program version.

We hope this tip helps you to get the most out of your Pitts & Spitts pellet grill and as always, if you have any questions, feel free to call us at the store if you need help with anything!
